Hairy Doodle

Was nice to find some time to draw. Really should have been doing other work but it was nice and relaxing to concentrate on something else. This is some type I'm messing with for a little side project, should be more to follow (pretty excited about it all)! This is just the drawing, needs tidying and re-sizing yet.

I've previously posted about Wild Beasts, a fantastic group originally from Kendal and one which I simply can't get enough of.

Billboard designs

Another recent University project, titled Rage Against the Machine (questionable), required 4 billboards that tackled the issue of energy consumption. The other stipulation was that we weren't asked to scream and shout at the audience, but try to create imagery that would strike up the debate on this problem.

I chose to keep it domestic and create some surreal imagery, with simple buzz words. Reason being, I wanted the billboards to be immediately arresting and memorable as well. I'll let you be the judge of that!

Im pretty happy with the final outcome, however, I would have benefited from a photographer to assist me, as I very much lack those skills.

From Scapa flow to Rotherhithe

British Sea Power on Jools Holland. I forgot how amazing this performance is, plus it is a different version of the song. Blows me away, every time.

My good friend Scroney gave me the audio file of this, so I can listen to it without youtube, but it's nice to watch it every once in a while.

I do love British Sea Power...even if they do owe me a prize.

New logo

This is a quick screenshot of my new logo that I plan on using for myself (on website, b/cards/portfolio etc). I completed it during summer but forgot I hadn't posted it up here to see what people think.

Its fairly simple, with emphasis purely on typography. It's quite a heavy face as I want it to work at a small size and still retain importance/strength within layouts. There is a secondary symbol too (second image), I guess it might come in handy for something?

I've only used this logo on a cover letter for a Uni project (pic below), but I am currently mocking up portfolio templates and sketching up plans for a new website, so it will be showing its face soon!

Comments on this logo are most welcome (as always!)!

Mailer

Howdy hi! I'm currently in the process of tidying up recent university briefs. It's good to approach old projects with fresh eyeballs.

Here we have the first brief of the year, experimental typography. I have re-designed my mailer and also made it larger in size, which will be exciting when printing! I dropped allot of information off the mailer and put it all into a cover letter (too boring to blog however), that would be posted along with the "limited edition poster."

The "use me!" type at the bottom of the poster is actually going to be cut out of the poster, to hint at the method that I used to create these letterforms.

Cutting out information from the original layout has enabled me to concentrate solely on the letterforms. I've tried to emphasize the name of the typeface (Resonance) through the placement of the letters. I've found it interesting trying to think of alternative ways of laying out the alphabet! I'd never considered the alphabet in a non-linear way.

It'd be great to hear what you think about this piece, I still have a few days before the work is palmed off for assessment!
